Introduction

Hot water plumbing

The legal temperature setting for your hot water cylinder is a minimum of 60°C, to instantly kill Legionella bacteria.

But setting a temperature extremely high can lead to wasted energy.

The New Zealand Building Code states that in the home the maximum water temperature at the tap for showers, baths and hand basins is 55°C so you may need a tempering valve installed. In some places the temperature must be no higher than 45°C at the tap.

Within this resource you will explore the legislative codes required for Hot water and how temperature is regulated to a particular temperature as it comes out the tap.
