Conditions for Successful Change
Overview
Just because change can be difficult, it doesn't mean that you shouldn't change. The main thing is to make sure that you think about what is going to happen. There are a number of ways to make sure that change is successful, and these usually revolve around communication. Don't make change a nasty surprise.
There are five elements that must be in place to achieve effective change.
Conditions for successful change
- Vision. The better people understand the reason for a change, the more positive they will remain. The organisation's leaders need to all agree and communicate the vision.
- Incentives. If individuals believe a change will benefit them or their organisation, negativity subsides.
- Skills. People become anxious and anxious people become negative when they feel they lack the skills needed to perform.
- Action plan. Individuals like to know the specific steps involved in a change. The more they know about how it will be implemented, the more positive they will remain. They want to know what results will be achieved. Effective communication is vital, as is a committed management team implementing the change. Everyone needs to be involved in the change, which should be implemented in a cohesive and coordinated manner.
- Resources. Employees need time, tools, money, and other resources to implement change in a positive manner.
