Antz Staff Profile

Welcome to Antz. We look forward to working with you. We are a large organisation that employs up to 200 people. We have a range of work situations and circumstances at Antz due to the various staff roles, jobs, and sites.

Our administrative staff have a structured work environment where they are responsible for developing and implementing the policy, systems, and processes that provide a working framework for our business services. Administrative staff are in management, human resources, marketing, sales, finance, and clerical positions. Staff are employed on a permanent basis, on fixed-term contracts, casually, or part time.

In contrast, work tasks on our construction sites are more fluid and may vary considerably from day to day. The construction staff can be permanent, fixed term, casual, or part time and work alongside or with contractors, or they may be employed as contractors by Antz.

Staff within the supply areas work with various groups to ensure the required equipment arrives where it is needed and at the right time. They are usually either permanent or fixed-term positions.

The pre-forming plant provides a variety of assembly line jobs, mostly for permanent and fixed-term positions. The plant produces partially assembled construction materials.

There are a number of machine operating jobs at Antz. These positions vary from forklift operators in the supply depots to digger and bulldozer operators on construction sites. They are mostly permanent and fixed-term positions

Anthony oversees the management of the company's business. He's responsible for all staff. He's paid a salary by the business and a share of the profits. Anthony belongs to the local chamber of commerce, the employers' and manufacturers' association, and Business New Zealand. Being an employer carries a lot of risk. He put his money into the company, and has taken on the risk.

Imelda oversees the management of the company's human resources. She needs to be aware of legislation that affects her management role, particularly in relation to staff management. She's responsible for three staff. She oversees recruitment, health and safety, training, employment conditions and management, work allocation, and staff payment.

Ben is responsible for recruitment, induction, health and safety, training, and work allocation. He advises the manager of any issues and drafts and implements human resource policy and procedures.

Jo works as an independent contractor for a number of companies. This means she bills them for the hours she works, rather than being paid wages like a regular employee.

Naomi oversees the management of the company's financial services and accounts. She needs to be aware of legislation that affects her management role, particularly in relation to financial management. She's responsible for two staff. She oversees staff payments and all financial business responsibilities and develops financial management policy and procedures.

Joel works 20 hours a week. He gets paid an hourly rate, but no overtime unless he works on public holidays. He ensures that staff follow the correct procedures for creating accounts, that all creditors are paid, and all debtors followed up.

Max manages the 50 staff involved in building and construction. He is responsible for projects completing on time and within budget. He must ensure workplace safety. Max needs to be aware of legislation that affects his management role, particularly in relation to building and construction.

Karaitiana represented Antz staff during the Collective Employment Agreement negotiation. In those negotiations, like all parties involved, he had a responsibility to act in good faith. His job is to protect the interests of his members and achieve improvements in working conditions. He also helps implement health and safety policy, informs staff, and inspects workplaces. As a Carpenter he works on internal construction.

Ana manages a team of assembly line staff in the pre-forming plant. She is responsible for ensuring workplace safety and training. She must ensure that the plant works within completion schedules and budget while producing quality construction materials.

Tuala works on the production line, feeding plastic tubing onto the line for assembly. He is responsible for ensuring the line workers have sufficient materials to enable smooth assembly. He must keep his work area free of hazards and shut the line down if there is an emergency.

Manny manages 10 staff working in the supply depots attached to various construction sites. They ensure the required equipment arrives where it is needed and at the right time. He is responsible for equipment and supplies arriving on time and within budget. He must ensure workplace safety. Manny needs to be aware of legislation that affects his management role, particularly in relation to driving and machine operation.
