Values

Attitudes are underpinned by values. You can think of values as deep-seated reflections of personal standards such as moral standards. Whether people steal from their work colleagues is a reflection of standards and values.

An organisation's values determine its culture, branding, vision, mission, objectives, strategy, and procedures. An individual's values determine their integrity, work ethic, commitment, passion, motivation, decision making, fulfilment, and productivity.

Beliefs

Beliefs are like propositions, about work and society for example.

For example: 'People on the dole don't want to work.'

Opinions

Opinions are akin to points of view. They tend to relate to less important and more transient issues than do attitudes. Researchers believe that opinions are less fixed than attitudes. People seem to be more able to change their opinions than their attitudes.

For example: 'Open plan offices are distracting and noisy.'
