Analysing Organisations Task
This task requires you to analyse various organisations' structures and environments. This will prepare you for the course assessment. The information you need for part one can be found in the Antz company profile. For part two, you can search the web, libraries, annual reports, company information, and information databases.
You will work within your forum teams to research these resources, answer the task questions, and then collate and present your comprehensive findings.
You need to organise your forum team. You can nominate yourself for positions or suggest other team members. Your forum team needs to:
- choose a facilitator to direct discussions within the team
- decide how the members of the team will work together to research the task questions and deliver feedback, for example, agree on which organisations you will research and who will research which question
- choose a reporter to collate and write up the team's findings.
In researching the information, you need to address these questions:
Part one
- Create an organisational chart for Antz. Include all major work areas and departments and depict reporting arrangements.
- Summarise the working environment at Antz - its culture, values, attitudes, beliefs, expectations, and behavioural standards.
Part two
- Find at least three significantly different organisations. You could choose from banks, supermarket franchise holders, schools, dairies, petrol stations, network marketers, or multinational corporations.
- Show their organisational charts, including all major work areas and departments, and depict their reporting arrangements.
- Discuss these organisations' structure.
- How do they work?
- What are the reporting arrangements - who reports to whom and why?
- Who makes the policy?
- Are there any regional or international relationships? If so, what are they?
- Analyse and summarise the working environments. For each organisation, what do you know about the following:
- culture
- values
- attitudes
- beliefs
- expectations
- behavioural standards.
- Discuss how these organisations differ.
Present your team's findings. Follow your tutor's instructions for the format and layout of this task.
Remember, this is a collaborative task. Share with each other and do the best you can.
