Main purposes of the position
The main purposes of the position are to:
- provide accurate, safety-conscious, responsible, and efficient machine assembly
- meet project deadlines
- provide good relationship management
- follow instructions diligently.
Key accountabilities are to the:
- Pre-forming Plant Manager
- Crew Leader.
Business plan objectives supported
- 1.Meet pre-forming plant project timelines.
- Zero level customer complaints
Working relationships
- Reports to:
- Crew Leader
- Responsible for:
- joining metal parts together to form machines, machinery maintenance, and fault analysis
- Works with:
- other assembly team members, floor hands

Duties
- position and fasten parts to make frames and engines
- join all parts to form machinery
- check the product for faults
- correct any problems with the machines
- assemble machines
- bolt, screw, clip, and weld machinery parts together
Person Specifications
Required competencies
- good hand-eye co-ordination and good eyesight (with or without corrective lenses)
- accurate, safety-conscious, responsible, efficient and able to follow instructions
- knowledge of different types of metals and methods of fastening metal parts
- knowledge of safety rules and procedures
- good practical skills
- basic maths skills for making calculations and measurements
- good interpretation skills for interpreting diagrams
- good problem-solving skills
- good communication and listening skills
- able to work in workshops and factories, where conditions may be noisy or greasy
- able to repeat the same tasks frequently, and spend a lot of time standing
- able to use hand and power tools effectively and safely.
Special requirements
- Machinery assemblers must use protective clothing, including earmuffs, safety glasses and work boots.
- Machinery assemblers usually work regular workshop hours. They may be required to work in shifts.
Qualifications
- There are no specific secondary or tertiary educational requirements, but science, English, maths and workshop technology may be useful.
- You will be required to complete an apprenticeship and gain a National Certificate in Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering, or Manufacturing (metal and related products).
- Apprenticeships are part of the Modern Apprenticeship scheme, which is for people aged from 16 to 21 years.
Experience
- Previous experience in assembly or construction would be an advantage.
