Mobile Phone Call 1: The Employment Relations Act 2000

Kia ora Ariana, it’s Tu here.

I’ve sent you the simplified versions of the Employment Relations Act, as promised. I just wanted to point out a few things following our discussion.

You need to know that the Employment Relations Act prohibits discrimination on any of the same grounds as the Human Rights Act. If an employee considers that they have suffered discrimination, they may take action against their employer as a personal grievance.

The Employment Relations Act aims to build productive employment relationships by the promotion of mutual trust and confidence. It recognises and promotes unions and requires all parties to the employment relationship to conduct themselves in good faith. It governs both the negotiation of employment agreements, and the process by which disputes and grievances that arise within the employment relationship are resolved.

Anyway, have a look at what I’ve sent you and the other legislation in your bookshelf.

Cheers.
