Choosing the 805 Introduction to Management course will help you complete the NZIM Certificate in Management, as it is a List A paper.
Management is the achievement of things with other people. Good management is vital to our economy and way of life. And good management is as valuable to netball and rugby clubs as it is to commercial business and government service.
This course introduces you to the basic management concepts. You will cover management roles and different approaches to management, and look at the components of best practice in management. The four management functions of planning, organising, leadership and control are covered in some detail.
Knowing about management will not of itself make you a good manager, but it is a good start. Understanding what management involves will enable you to appreciate the role and functions of your manager – or, if you are in a management position, to identify the processes that should support your work.
As a graduate, you will be valuable for the following reasons:
- You will be able to recognise what it takes to manage and ensure all the components of the process are taken care of.
- You will be able to evaluate approaches to management and what that means for the culture of the organisation and the work and people involved.
- You will be able to recognise what it takes to plan effectively in an organisation.
- You will be able to appreciate how organising puts planning into effect.
- You will be able to evaluate the importance of leadership and how different leadership styles impact on the work to be done.
- You will be able to recognise the importance of control to ensure leadership, planning and organisation are effective.
In this course you will develop an understanding of management by analysing different management functions and approaches. After completing this course you will understand the key management concepts. These are precious tools that are vital when working in a company or running your own business – and also when organising the next fundraiser for your child’s school or managing the local rugby team.
