What do effective leaders do?
Effective leaders:
- set a good example of how to do things. This encourages or motivates staff to do well. They teach their staff good attitudes, habits and skills
- reward good work. They praise and encourage
- don’t abuse their power. For example, rewards are fair and deserved. So is criticism
- listen to their staff and work with them to solve problems
- train their staff properly so that they can do their work confidently and well
- accept responsibility for their own mistakes
- work with staff. They develop a shared understanding of what has to be done and why, and how it should be done.
