Statutory requirements
Regional and local councils have statutory requirements to protect the environment.
Any activity or any business likely to create pollution must comply with rules and regulations.
For example:
The Greater Wellington Regional Council (GWRC) has rules that cover prevention of pollution to air, land and water (streams, rivers and sea).
Hutt City Council has bylaws on discharges to sewer, Trade Waste, noise control, and dumping of waste.
