In this course you will identify the principles of Quality Assurance for construction and develop and produce a Site Quality Assurance Plan for a specific construction site.
Getting started
Read the course information link below to get an overview of the course, then go to the topic sections below to complete the course requirements.
There's a group of people sitting in the construction site shed, telling stories. Listen to what they have to say then identify how many quality assurance problems they talk about.
Everyone has some stories about quality assurance gone wrong. If you have one to tell, add it here so we can keep a collection of quality assurance stories.
There are two main stages to the QA process: pre-tender and post-contract.
In the pre-tender phase you prepare the documentation and 'scope' the project. In the second, post-contract phase, you write the Site Quality Plan(SQP).
Before we start, let's meet the team at Mahia Construction so that you can begin to get an overview of the site quality assurance process and find an answer to the question "What is quality assurance?"
Topic 4
What's the pre-tender process?
Writing the pre-tender plan involves a lot of preparation.
Your next task is to put a pre-tender plan together using the template below.
The information from the Why Quality Assurance stories and the Mahia Construction overview will be useful when you write the pre-tender plan.
Once you have completed the template, save it and upload it to your assignment drop box. Use the links on the left to the QA Manual and the Pre-tender factor checklist if you need to.
Now you are ready to write the SQP. There's a list of resources here to help you, some more conversations at Mahia Construction and a template to use for your practice SQ Plan.
When you write your SQP you need to work systematically. You'll follow the New Zealand Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NZIQS) list of elements and for each element there will be a control sheet. This link has the list of elements.
Now you are ready for the second part of the process-writing the SQP. Work through the template and follow the suggestions and hints so you can include all the details. When you are done upload the finished template for your tutor to comment.
Her next task will be to review the process, note its successes and any problems so that next time Mahia Construction uses this process it will work even better.
